- Syria’s armed opposition forces say President Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year rule has come to an end after they seized the capital, Damascus.
- Russia says al-Assad has left Syria and ordered a peaceful transition of power to take place. His whereabouts remain unknown.
- The opposition groups have declared a curfew in Damascus from 4pm (13:00 GMT) until 5am (02:00 GMT).
- The commander of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Abu Mohammed al-Julani, says all state institutions will remain under the supervision of al-Assad’s prime minister until they are handed over officially.
- The announcements come hours after opposition groups seized several cities in a lightning offensive.
