‘I’m immensely proud of this team’: Scott Parker reaction

The Burnley boss speaking to Sky Sports: “I’m immensely proud of this team. I’ll probably get ridiculed for saying that in the world we live in. I am just being honest.”

He added: “These players have come in every single day with an absolutely humongous challenge and we’ve just fallen a little bit short.”

‘Five games’: Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports after the full-time whistle:

“‘[It’s] the Premier League for five games. So this is the reality. Five games, and now we have a semifinal that’s very tough on Saturday.

“It’s a big opportunity to play four finals in a row. We’ll see how tired [the players are]. Maybe I’ll have to make some changes because otherwise it’s been a lot of minutes for players. At the end, they were a little bit tired.”

‘It’s all about winning’ – Haaland reaction

The message from Erling Haaland post-match was clear, even if he was a little perplexed by the line of questioning.

“It’s all about winning, no matter how we try to play our football. Just try to win.”

Asked if the side are disappointed they didn’t win by more than one goal, he said: “One-nil is amazing, I’m super happy. I don’t know why you keep on asking me that. I’m super happy. We win, and we get three points and as they sing – we are top of the league. So be happy.’

A familiar feeling for Burnley

Tonight’s 1-0 loss at home officially condemned Burnley to life in the Championship next season alongside Wolves.

They’ve mustered just four wins this campaign, and it’s resulted in their third Premier League relegation in five seasons.

Who else but Erling Haaland?

The Norwegian took his tally to 35 goals in all competitions for the season, and that could be the most important of the lot.

City dominated tonight and should have scored more, but ultimately it was their ever-present, ever-reliable striker who made the difference in just the fifth minute to send them top.
