Reaction from PSG’s Desire Doue

“We don’t change our approach; we don’t change the things we’re used to doing,” Doue said in explanation of the keys to PSG’s success.

“The coach asks us to press, to attack, defend … to give it everything and run for each other. That’s how you go about winning trophies. We all fought for one another, and that’s our strength.”

Reaction from PSG midfielder Joao Neves

“It’s always great to get to another final,” Neves told Canal Plus,

“We’re very proud of our journey and what we’ve done here. I think it’s a time to celebrate. Playing against Bayern is always difficult; they’re a great team. We know how to battle through.”

Bayern lament lack of ‘killer’ instinct after PSG elimination

Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer bemoaned his side’s lack of killer instinct in the Champions League semifinal elimination at the hands of holders Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern have scored an incredible 175 goals in all competitions this season but were unable to break through until stoppage time, when Harry Kane grabbed an equaliser.

“We didn’t have big chances today, but we still created enough to score. We missed the killer mentality that PSG had to score the goals,” Neuer said to DAZN.

“We were close to the final but couldn’t take the next step. Our goal came too late.”

England captain Kane’s goal, in the fourth added minute, came too late to give the hosts hope of scoring another to force extra time.

“Our goal unfortunately came a bit too late. We didn’t have time to create another chance or maybe even get a set-piece,” Neuer said.

“At that point it was too late.”

Next up for Bayern Munich

They’ve already won the league title and the German Super Cup and are still to face Stuttgart in the final of the DFB Pokal, so it’s not all doom and gloom!

‘Control and chaos’ – the perfect blend

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes PSG boss Luis Enrique has created the perfect combination of control and chaos.

“I think that’s how you win the Champions League,” said Hargreaves on TNT Sports. “You have to defend your box well. You got a goal advantage; they can afford to play a little bit deeper. Everybody’s behind the ball.

“Every one of these players is a 50,60,70,80,90 million pound player, but they put a shift in for the team. Everybody defended when they needed to. And you know what, there was no space.”

‘They’re that good’ – Steven Gerrard

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard knows what it’s like to win the Champions League final, and he’s been full of praise for PSG boss Luis Enrique when speaking on TNT Sports.

“He brought a load of young kids through. He recruited extremely well, and he’s built a team on a lot of really good principles and values, and this team potentially could dominate for years to come. They’re that good.”

PSG the strong favourites now

Having destroyed Inter Milan in last season’s Champions League final, PSG will now be the strong favourites to retain their crown in Budapest.

However, whilst Arsenal may not have been the most attacking force in this year’s competition, they have been the best defensively and are unbeaten throughout the entire tournament so far.

Both sides could head into the clash in Hungary as domestic champions as well, with both teams currently topping their league tables.

What a semifinal this was …

We didn’t see as many goals tonight as we did in the previous leg, but what a show these two sides have put on.

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany applauds the fans and looks to lift the spirits of his players, who tried tonight but just couldn’t break down the PSG machine.

The Bayern crowd recognise that and are now serenading their side at the south end of Allianz Arena.

Again, Diaz drives into the PSG box, but he hits the byline and is closed down by the PSG defence.

He’s gotten into some great positions tonight, but it just hasn’t worked for him. None of Bayern’s front four have been able to make the difference.
